I have ten sites or so on my server, most with consecutive IP's...

All where hit- lightly- by $botname last night...

squid.niss.ac.uk - - [01/Oct/2002:19:59:22 -0600] "GET /robots.txt HTTP/1.1" 200 4924 "-" "$botname"
squid.niss.ac.uk - - [01/Oct/2002:19:59:23 -0600] "GET / HTTP/1.1" 200 16774 "-" "$botname"

tha's about it- on all servers.

squid.niss.ac.uk - this would indicate they are using a squid proxy. are you sure it was acting like a spider

Acting like a spider?

I would guess... with only two hits, it's hard to tell.... but to request robots.txt.... and then /, looks like a robot to me! But I am never sure about anything!
