I'm relatively new on Flash..but when I export as either a GIF or SWF the images look very rough. Any clue to what am I doing wrong? If you need an example let me know.

when expoting to a .swf are you trying to scale the movie to fit the page, bitmaps do not scale well.
Also check the jpg compression in the publish settings.
