Hi All,

I have a client that I do php for, and she wants her site redesigned in flash. I'm not a flash developer. How would it cost to have a proffessional flash site created. Can data be pulled in from a database? Should she be going the flash route, or stick to dynamic html/php?
Where can I find a decent designers to refer her to?

Thanks!

Yup, using ActionScripting. Which means that you need somebody who can code AS to a very proficient level as well as design the site (or, alternatively, two people...).

Why not combine the two? Use flash for some of the presentation but use normal html/php for text etc. Take a look at macromedia.com - a great example.

My 16 year old cousin can do it. ;-) (sorry) Quality costs - it wouldn't be any cheaper than a quality html site.

yes full flash sites can be costly because it does take alot of work, i myself have created a few full flash sites, nothing too serious or complex tho. You can create the site, add css etc to it whatever and import the content into flash using ActionScript which can be kinda complex. Price depends on how much you want doing to it tho. Obviously the more you want the more it costs, costs can run into a few hundred tho, or you could go out buy and few books and get reading ;).

How much is a house?

It all depends. However, my experience has been that Flash is about 3 times as much to develop in and more involving to update.

Heh, I was going to ask "How far is up?"

I think 3 times the cost is a bit harsh - but double the cost of the equiv HTML/PHP cost is probably reasonable.

Then again, some guys who eat and sleep flash would probably insist it takes no longer.

It will cost you a lot of business. Flash is bad. I leave when I see a flash site.

I would agree. Make the main part of the site and all the navigation etc in HTML and slot flash graphics in to make it look 'flashy' and keep the client happy :)
