Hi,
I have a customer that is going to buy Macromedia. For search engines, should they buy Studio MX 2004, or just Dreamweaver? Also maybe Fireworks for graphics?

In what context are you referring to search engines?

Are you wanting to create them? or are you hoping to use the software to get higher SE placement?

Not truely knowing your context the studio is a good buy because you get flash, fireworks, freehand, dreamweaver, and homesite. If you are going to be doing the full life cycle development it is a great.

Now if they are just doing some updating and need a WYSIWYG then I would suggest just dreamweaver and maybe get paintshop pro for graphics if they only want some touch up( all though paintshop pro is powerful and can do almost anything any other graphics package can).

So what exactly do they need?

korkus, not knocking PaintshopPro, but the DW/FW combo is a killer timesaver (editing graphics from within DW) and, if they are going to go with Macromedia anyway and need graphics capabilities, I would say get the Studio and have done with it just for the value of the package.

Yes but if they are doing just a little touch up then a paintshop pro dreamweaver combo is a lot less. I think over half the price. If they are doing a lifecycle our a lot of graphic maintenance then I agree that studio would be best.

Thanks for your replies.

Dreamweaver is being used for SEO purposes.
They are starting with a small site and will
be adding graphics for their products.

It seems that buying Studio MX 2004 is a bit
much for them.

Text and graphics, basic.

Much appreciate your time and help.

oops, one last thing.

They have a mac (.art), and send me the graphics.
Sometimes, Fireworks cannot open them when
they save as a .jpg.

I use Macromedia products on both platforms and transfer files between both all the time. Most file formats are universal but on a mac you do not have to add the .jpg extension on the end as you do in the PC world. So it is possible that there might be an issue with the files being the wrong format. Also some programs such as Photoshop support different color modes than Fireworks which can also cause issues.

Dreamweaver is an HTML editor, it has nothing to do with SEO. Maybe they should buy a subscription to Webmaster world first?
