...so, lots has been going on with me lately.... girlfriend left me.... got a new carpet... cleaning out my life in general... and somewhere in this catharsis, someone let lots of black flies into my house. I guess its that season out here in farm country. we have flies all over the place. And I have no screens at all.

...and they drive me nuts. crazy. and I absolutely can't train them, no matter what I do.... unlike bees and wasps which run away in 1 on 1 combat with the RabidDog, I can't teach flies anything... they are relentless. You just have to swatter them to death.... rampages 3 times a day. the electric zapper just seems to kill moths... and I dont really have a problem with them... just the flies.

rofl.... heheh, thanks folks for your all your input....

FYI I ended going back to the fly paper rolls, and only swatting when I wanted to vent some frustration and rain down some hate:)

My house now is under control, but they are now biting my dogs ears until they bleed.... which makes me (seriously) mad... and my kennel is *clean*.... just too many cows out here.... a dairy farm (aka 'a-big-stinking-place') is right down the road... that is the source of my problem... maybe it is time to turn in my dart gun for my AR-15 and go a little postal on them.... anyone for hamburger? :)

.... hehehe just kidding... just praying for some hard frosts and big snow.

Dogboy, one solution has not been suggested yet. It seem to be the best one: Bats

You will never imagine how efficiently bats can control flying insects. To get bats, you just built a bat house. It is that easy. You just need a couple of plywood sheets, glue, screws and paint.

It is just that I don't know how your dogs will react to the ultrasounds bats make while hunting.

[batcon.org...] Do not miss the "online plans" link.

P.S.

The 55 grains bullet some AR-15 pop-gun shoots are way too light for cows. You need at least a .308 or better. I suggest the 30.06 with a Nosler Partition NO 30 CAL.308-180 GR.SPITZER or SEMI-SPITZER for such heavy games. :)

>bats

True! A good, long-term, low maintenance solution.

DB, see if you can find some Sulfadene. It's oily and sticks well to the coat and skin. Rub a light amount so the dogs won't get it in their eyes.

when I was at school we were issued a very dry and stodgy English grammar text book that had been written by a relative of our headmaster...one summer, in a desperate attempt to find a use for the tomes, we set out to see who could kill the most insects with their copy

I was very proud of the seven dead critters I managed to splatter over mine...but one of my class mates managed to squash nearly twenty with his...in a mere six weeks

in the right hands it has to count as one of the most effective anti-fly devices I know of...in the wrong hands it was even more destructive...as my total inability to grasp the rules of grammar will testify
