Anyone else getting their servers beat up by scooter? Thousands upon thousands of hits to some sites. Wide range of sites so I imagine it has been happening to everyone.

The Scooter-W3-1.0 one? It's been hitting a bunch of sites pretty hard, but not too abusive.

The non-UA spider off of 209.73.164.149 is sending chills up my spine. It's visiting every site under my belt only once. Not worried about most of the sites, but there are a few.....

I am also getting hit by Scooter-W3-1.0, not to mention a few others.....I am not complaining though, I just shelled out money to them

209.73.162.22 -- Scooter-W3-1.0 definitely doing the rounds today. Have been looking for a deep crawl on non-submitted pages here [webmasterworld.com] - looks like only previously submitted pages are getting grabbed on this round too.

(agerhart, out of interest - on your recent paid submissions, which spiders coming through?)

Yeah I've been hit by Scooter-W3-1.0 and Scooter-3.0.FS.
Got heavily hit by Scooter last week. Apart from that there have only been from 10 - 100 hits from the above two.

Just about daily, all the pages, including all in the graphics section on one.

I believe they were mostly responsible for the site being down on monday.

Wow... I wonder if there's some kind of massive programming glitch related to an attempted "new feature" or something. Did anyone notice it trying to access new types of information, like following dynamic links, or something like that?

I've seen strange things happen to scripts during editing. Like they were trying to do A, but they skipped a semi-colon somewhere, and ended up killing the sub-routines that previously prevented B from happening...

I can't imagine a legitimate engine would knowingly program a spider to act that way.

Scooter hit me with 220 GETs in one minute (3.67 per second).

All but the first 40 were dished out as "Server too busy" once I determined that they were hitting too fast, so it must have thought that if one "Server too busy" page comes back so quickly, why not get lots of 'em! ("Take two, they're small!")

I have'nt seen the volume of gets as some of you'se chaps, as the site that i am chapioning at the mo, has just had it first visit, or should i say visits.

Scooter19
Scooter3

trek10
trek14
trek16

trek5
trek6

Though, i've seen av url verifiers, or do i thought, is this a good sign to have all these bots coming for pages, or is there anything else going on ?

What started as a small crawl is getting way out of hand today. Now I'm seeing the same thing as others, it's grabbing a page every 2 seconds.

That is a problem when they all decide to gang up at the same time. We're not to far from a GoogleBot coming out in full force either. Especially here where we get so much rogue/nasty spider traffic.

I am actually happy to see them. I thought AV had given up on me. They have been to all of my sites that I monitor, and 90% of them were never submitted.

This could be a good sign actually. Come on AV.... You can do it - give Google some competition.

They have been hitting my site like nothing I have ever seen. The last 3 days have been painfull so I hope the indexing pay's off. About 5 hits per second with a break for about 3 hours mid day today.

Hi All,

Confirming the same.

I have Scooter-W3-1.0 traul through over 600 pages in 24 hours but not hitting with enough frequency to cause a problem.

I actually only submitted the root url and it's followed all my links down 3 levels with 50 links on each page.

1182 hits in the last 22 hours from

209.73.162.41 [Scooter-W3-1.0]
209.73.162.161 [Scooter-W3-1.0]
209.73.162.82 [Scooter-W3-1.0]
209.73.164.129 [Scooter-3.0.EU]
209.73.164.50 [Scooter/1.0]

A strange pattern of hits tho. .41 came aroud and requested over 400 pages that don't exist any more, and haven't for over 6 months. 6 hours later, same IP came back and indexed just the existing content, starting from index.asp, although didn't follow any ? links from these linked pages.
Three hours later, same IP again, indexing the same stuff as it had the previous time (most of it 404), but since it had last been, I'd uploaded around 300 pages of stuff that was previous 404, so I'm not complaining :)
