SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Web search engine AltaVista will add an online newsstand to its main index Monday to make its results more topical and useful to surfers looking for up-to-the-minute information.

I see also AV to use Moreover as their news source. In some ways it is a great idea,, moreover is clearly the leader in commercial news feeds (and free ones!).

However I would have preferred a little bit of work and they could have created their own service from the XML feeds provided by most major news services - similar to how userland.com and newsisfree.com do it - both skip the middleman and AV could have more control and customization.

I've never "got" the whole moreover thing - guess it was all the incompatable javascript, and bright orange on thier site that turned me off. (nothing says "modern hyper sheik" like orange, gray css with fonts so small they are illegible ;-)

I'm a newshub fan.
