Submitting to non-US Altavista sites?

For those of you looking to use automated submissions, you can tweak your code a little to direct to a non-USA AV site that does not use the submission code, like .au or .uk. You should still get ranked, not quite as high however. OCR is probably the answer to this problem but it is going to be tough.

Anybody have any ideas how much "rankings penalty" is associated with submitting through a non-U.S. version of AltaVista?

Haven't altered any code yet, but I performed a search through AV Australia for a site we had number 1 ranking for in US and it was number 3 there so who knows. The penalty does not seem too severe. I heard from someone in Australia that anything registered through the Austalia site will make it into the main directory. We'll just have to see.;)
