Dear AltaVista User:

Last month, at the end of a survey on AltaVista you gave us this email
address to send you a set of follow-up questions. We'll now we're planning
changes to AltaVista and we'd like to hear what you think first.

As always, your responses will remain anonymous - so please feel free to
be candid about both the positive things and the areas for improvement.

The survey takes about 3 minutes to complete.

If they send a check with that I would be happy to reply... "just make it like Google and you're in business"

Here's what I wrote....
---
"AltaVista needs to concentrate on their search results, and move paid listings to a more clearly marked area of the results page... more like Google's "sponsored links".

AV used to be the fastest updating, most current index available online. It was almost the ONLY search engine I ever used. Then more and more paid links began appearing on results pages, and the updates of the free index became less and less frequent. I feel the relevance and accuracy of their search results have suffered greatly because of these factors, and I no longer use AltaVista for anything.

I have switched to using Google and FAST for virtually all of my internet searching, because I know their indexes have regular and frequent update schedules, and their search results almost always match up with the current version of the sites they have listed. This also means fewer 404 results by far.

AltaVista has simply let their search results become outdated, over-commericalized, and almost useless. It's really too bad, since they used to be so good."
---
I should have added, "and their email support really stinks too..."

So basically the survey seems to be _leading_ us to tell them that their sponsored listings suck. Quite what the VC boys will look like when they see the response to the survey would be priceless.

The link in the initial post may or may not work as the URLs are individually numbered. I was 6016 : )

Anyone know the answer to question 10? I'm stuck...

(slight edit for pre-'first-cup-of-coffee-of-the-day' jitters)
