Looks like someone messed up their link.

Go ahead and submit your site(s) here:

UK Altavista [uk.altavista.com]

After you submit to the UK site you will receive a page that asks you if you want to submit to US Altavista. That one is still working from what I see here.

>messed up their link

Clicking on "free" takes you back to option 1 (pay). An omen?

I bet. They probably want people to get so frustrated that they will say @#~$% I'll just go ahead and pay!!

It's not gone yet, because if you go to the add url page at altavista (so that the referrer is from altavista) and paste into your browser's address bar the following after modifying the url to submit:

[add-url.altavista.com...]

it works just fine.

If you're very quiet, you can almost hear the Dumptruck engines firing up, eh Air?

Are they going to pull a Inktomi though? Seems to me it would be very easy for them to throw out everything submitted right now.

Good points all around...

They question I would ask, Brett, instead of "are they going to pull an inktomi" is

Why wouldn't they pull an inktomi? Given all the CMGI troubles these days, and the sliding market share of Altavista in the search market, why wouldn't they try anything that was already accepted to gain more revenue?

Downside of this move: people don't get to submit their sites for free. Shucks. Upside: reliable indexing...could be quite a hook.

<speculation>
And the price? Well, given their market capitalization...I would gauge it at 30 for the first page.</speculation>

Cheers,

Han Solo

So is this link not working anymore either? I haven't tested it yet but I'm going to have to submit some pages this week
[altavista.com...]

( so glad I found these forums! Why didn't y'all tell me sooner! )

The front page submit link is back in action today.
