Hi all,

Based on a idea from a friend I have written a script that returns a 1x1 image tag to my documents. The href of these tags has AV's submission script and my Page names in the query string..

It's early days do I'm not sure.. But will this work or am I asking for trouble?

I keep my page names unique and submit only one URL per day / per Domain IP.

Thanks

Do you mean your pages will automatically submit themselves when the image tags are called? That would probably be bad, if that's what you mean.

That's what I was talking about. I dont think it would be bad it just saves me from doing it by hand and reduces the risk of me sumiting the same page twice.

Will this work?

<img src="http://add-url.altavista.com/cgi-bin/newurl?ad=1&q=[MyURL HERE]" width="1" height="1">

I've never tried anything like that. I use SelfPromotion.com for site promotion.

Unless someone else here has tried something similar, I would think the only way to find out if it works is to try it and watch your traffic logs for spiders. The AV spider checks the page as soon as you submit, so that would be a quick way to find out.

I assume this page won't be publicly accessible?

Dave,
What if you have 500 impressions on that call? Do you want to risk that type of attention. I mean, all those submissions may bring out the spam police.

It's pretty clever Dave, but risky.

It will carry a referrer to Altavista that is not the altavista add url page, a very common way for the SE's to determine where a submission is coming from and why many homegrown submitters fail.

"What if you have 500 impressions on that call? "

I have made the script to only submit one page per day per domain/IP. The rest of the time I return nothing to the browser. So That's not a problem.

Yup, I know that this might be a problem but I can see in the logs that SE are sending bots to the pages I submit so I'm guessing it works now.

Dave,

Why do you feel the need to submit so often? Is your site changing that much? It can be counterproductive to submit too often.

"It can be counterproductive to submit too often"

That's the first thing that popped into my head when I started reading this thread.....In the past AV's given a boost to older pages, this seems like more of a risk than a benefit.....

you're not using this for Inktomi are U?
