For a lonk time my site did very well on ink. One day it disapeared. I did a PFI and it it still did not show up for any key search term.

When I search for mydomain.com, my site is there, but shows up poorly for "brand widgets" (#256!) with sites that link to me on top. Something is definitely wrong since I own the brand and should be #1. If a penalty had been applied, according to what I have read, I would have been ranked last.

A similiar situation arose earlier with alltheweb and when I contacted them, they indicated that an adult filter was erroneously applied because of the word "exotic" in our title. After removing the filter, the site showed up and still does.

Could this also be the case with ink? If so, how can I check on it and what can i do about it?

Yep, that could be the case. Same thing happened to my website.

To check go to the positiontech pure inktomi search page and then type in your domain name (sticky me if you want the url), and try switching the adult filter on and off. If you see your site on one and not the other, then obviously you have the adult filter applied to your site.

Ok, now for the bad news. There is probably nothing you can do to fix it... or at least I haven't figured it out yet. I have called positiontech, emailed them at least 50 times, and all they will tell me is that I paid to be included and my website is included. Also, there is no way to contact inktomi directly so basically there is no way to get it removed.
