No clicks at all since mid December

I've had paid inclusion with inktomi for more than two years and would generally get between 5-10 clicks a day according to a tool available from PositionTech. My subscription never lapsed but since last Deceber I have had zero clicks. My site figures highly in search engines; top in Google for my main search terms. I sent an email to Ink and the reply simply suggested it was "one of those things" and I would need to re-optimize my pages.

Is anybody else experiencing similar?

jonny,

never nice to hear that, however lets try and crack this.

1, google plays no part in whether inktomi/position tech are going to send you traffic.

2, for which/how many search terms does your site rank (high), and do you know how popular those phrases are?

3, the reason for "2" above is the fact that a lot of places which run Inktomi, also use an Overture or other PPC listing, so even if you are #1 for a competitive keyword, chances are that there could be over 100 PPC listings ahead of you (trust me when I say, I sat at #1 for a real money word for 12 mths on inktomi and got about 2 clicks a day, when OV was bringing in over 500)

hope the above helps make some sense on the matter.

In December a lot of pfi sites were removed by a major Ink error.

Check to see you are in the database at all.

Well when I search Ink for my product name (a pretty unique two word phrase) I appear ... just! I'm in position 20th after 19 other sites which list my product.

I know there can be flux regarding a sites ranking but having had pretty consistent ranking for almost two years to then go to zero every day for two months seems v. strange.

If I'm getting no visitors is there any point renewing my listing with Ink? - academic really since I renewed 2 weeks ago!

This may not be right, but if you renewed two weeks ago you might have been re-added two weeks ago after being dropped. At least in my case, right now my page ranks dead last for almost all searches of multi-word unique text. If this is a common occurence with the pages that were dumped, hopefully it will work itself out soon. It has been quite awhile now.

I've experienced same thing since November. Positiontech always gives me a different answer when I contact them. You've gotten a penalty, you need to optimize, blah, blah, blah. They don't give a hoot. My pages are about as clean as they come and I'm not about to change them for people who seem to know little to begin with. You ask them the same question five times and they'll give you five different answers.

Interestingly a search shows I'm in Inktomi but my pages absolutely do not appear in any searches.

I've given up on Positiontech. I can't recommend them anymore. I was making the switch to Lycos Insite but they may be out of business shortly.
