Inktomi using anchor text?

My site is well known in the widgeting community, and many people link to it with the anchor text "Mohamed's Site". As a result a Google search for "Mohamed Keyword" will bring up my site, even though my name does not appear anywhere in the text or URL.

Today, for the first time, I noticed an MSN referral of "Mohamed Keyword" in my logs. Tested it out on Inktomi's pure search, and sure enough it turned up in position #1! It even beat my subsidiary site, where the index page has an H1 of "Mohamed's Keyword1 Keyword2 ..."!

Yes Inktomi uses Anchor Text.

I had always believed that anchor text was a pure Googleism, and so I thought that I had made a major discovery :) Should have done a site search first, here is a recent (less than a week old) thread where several posters say that "Inktomi loves anchor text": [webmasterworld.com...]

From my perspective this thread is a "good news, bad news" story.

The bad news is that I am even more ignorant than I believed :(

No... optimize for engines in general, and you will do well with the other engines (assuming you've got good link popularity)

Inktomi loves heading tags though as long as they are done right with keywords in them lol! unlike some engines i cant mention beginning with g
