For example, I put together a simple, one-page site for my sister-in-law about widgets. It's just a placeholder page with some basic text and a form for email collection. I know it's in the pure search index, but it doesn't even show up in the top 200 for "widgets". I just don't see how that's possible.
Some other page shows up at #31 . I looked at the page's source and the word “widgets” only shows up 4 times on the page. The rest isn’t even in English. I’m not picking on that page, but I have a fairly difficult time understanding how that page should rank above mine for the word "widgets".
I’m having a similar occurrence with another site I submitted late last week also, so I don’t think it’s isolated to one particular url.
I realize that the site can definitely be improved upon, but I’m really surprised that it won’t even crack the top 200. I had problems on some other sites with the geo-targeting that they did, but that seems to have been cleared up. Is anyone else noticing anything unusual at Ink lately?
Thanks,
Graydon Trusler

just a placeholder page with some basic text and a form for email collection.
PFI won't give you a ranking bonus. You still need to cultivate inbound links. Additionally, you need to have content. A placeholder page won't get you anywhere.
It's not an Ink problem, the problem is very likely with the quality of your page. Ink has human editors that look for a variety of pages that are considered "unsuitable" for their index.
