I just got an offer for a banner for a year on Altavista.co.uk - for 500 - for my KWs.

Have looked on Altavista site, I can't see how these banners are setup. I would rather set up my own.

- Does anyone know how this is done?

- Is it worth the cost?

IMO nope if it was 250 maybe the return on banners is very low, I was chatting to someone last month that paid for a banner on Lycos and got next to no traffic from it.

Put the money into some bids :)

I just had a letter from AV UK giving us 30 days notice that all banners will be removed and that thereafter AV will not be doing any banners. Be careful.

Thanks stevexyz - that sounds like useful info.

I would like to call Alta (UK) to discuss this, can't find a phone number. Can anyone sticky me a phone number?

The same company (as part of the same deal) are offering 50 page one positions per day (not just the banner). I think its an XML feed thing. Anyone got any info about this?
