Scooter requesting malformed urls?

I keep seeing Scooter requesting malformed urls off my server, for example:

trek26.sv.av.com - - [04/Apr/2003:09:02:23 +0100] "GET /inde HTTP/1.1" 404 1041 "-" "Scooter/3.2"

why is it asking for /inde and not /index.htm

another:

trek26.sv.av.com - - [02/Apr/2003:14:08:10 +0100] "GET /19c HTTP/1.1" 404 1041 "-" "Scooter/3.2"

What on earth is /19c looks like a hex number to me?

Not all of the urls it requests are like this though many are fine. It does seem to be only Scooter that is doing this so it's unlikely to be any server problem.

None of these odd URLS have ever existed on the server BTW, so it isn't looking for old documents.

Apologies if this has already been widely discussed, I did try searching the forums and didn't find anything (maybe I didn't search very hard! hehe)

Anybody got any suggestions?

Almost every major spider has made at least one malformed request to my sites - unless it is happening all the time, I wouldn't be too concerned...

Alt Vista does this sort of thing often. They want to make sure that you are not serving up pages for ANYTHING they ask for. Those requests should result in a 404. Inktomi also does this sort of thing by asking for "www.domain.com/...". Scooter has been doing this for a few days on our sites too. It seems to have no predictable cycle.

This has been discussed before but I can't seem to find it either..
