Paying for inclusion

I am launching a new site and am thinking of spending some money to register with search engines. I would really like to be on all the major US and UK search engines. So I am thinking of spending money on paid inclusion.I know google does not have this service.

Can anyone recommand which search engines I should pay for inclusion to get the best results. I need to try and get into most US and UK search engnes within a month...

Inktomi is worth it in some cases for traffic, but so far for the limited testing I've done, it doesn't help conversions (at least in the niche I'm targetting)...

Altavista 'free traffic' is dead, despite good rankings for many in different areas - so I'm not sure that's a good idea or not.

As far as FAST goes, I haven't paid them, but the few sites I have that rank well there haven't had much luck either...:(

So my recommendation would be to pay inktomi, and try to get listed in dmoz. That will help the rest, though it may take more than a month...

If you really need quick results (for a client perhaps?) then use ppc.

PPC is pay per click, the latest trend in getting your site on top of search destinations worldwide.

You can normally tell the PPC results, as they will be highlighted "Sponsored listings" etc.
