There are a few of us here at work trying to work out our submissions and getting really confused over it!

We normally submit to:-

Inktomi
Lycos
AlltheWeb (free)

Now that PositionTech has taken over the Lycos submissions we are befuddled :)

Apparently submitting to Fast through PT gets you included in Lycos and AlltheWeb. So will submitting to AlltheWeb for free get us included in Lycos and Fast?

Basically the question I'm asking is what's the minimum amount of submissions needed to be included in them all? I don't want to end up paying twice.

BTW, I have read the other posts but we're all still confused!

It really depends whether or not you want to go with their PFI programs, or you want to take a shot at getting included for free.

If you want to pay for inclusion, PT offers registration for INK and Fast, which will cover MSN, HotBot, Lycos, AllTheWeb, etc.

You can also opt to not pay for inclusion. If you go this route, you can submit your site for free, and then I would suggest working hard on link popularity.

Inktomi, is often PFI.

Lycos uses Alltheweb/Fast, so it's the same as Alltheweb's database.

Alltheweb.com/Fast you have 2 options, either submit free, or wait for the spider to come out and crawl you (you can get crawled and indexed for free in Inktomi too, it oftens taks a little but longer though)

Or you can pay for inclusion.

The Lycos PFI (Pay for Inclusion) and Positiontech program is the same, if you use any of them, the url still ends up at the alltheweb/fast, PFI database.

PositionTech also have PFI for Inktomi.

PFI with Inktomi, means inclusion within 72 hours after submission, and 48 hour update of the page.

PFI for Alltheweb provided by either Lycos or Positiontech means inclusion within 48 hours, and update of the page every 48 hour.

Hope it clears the situation.

Does paying for these inclusions mean that you will get a higher position than if you got in for free, or is that just down to optimizing your page?

Paying for inclusion has no bearing on rankings.
