I have noticed a huge surge in traffic from my Intomi listings on MSN. A count of backlinks to my site in the Inktomi database is identical to those from Google. Also, my keyword rankings at Inktomi are similar to those in Google. This just happened recently because prior to a week ago my rankings in Inktomi were very poor. I am wondering if Inktomi is making some changes to their alg to be more inline with Google results (i.e., using something similar to Page Rank). Or, perhaps, my recent inclusion in the Looksmart/Zeal directories (about a month ago) has given me some brownie points with Inktomi. Does anyone else have similar experience?

Thanks!

Use that to get pure Ink results without Looksmart in the way like at MSN. It seems to me more the other way around. Inktomi isn't becoming more like Google. Google has changed their algo to be more like Ink.

I already use PositionTech to see my Inktomi rankings. Just in the past week, my keyword rankings have gone from beyond the 10th page to the first. Similar backlinks as Google. I don't know which was first, Google or Inktomi, but now my rankings are similar on both. I really think my rankings changed when Inktomi discovered my new Looksmart listing. I had high Inktomi rankings last April before I dropped my L$ listing (because of their new format). Then, last month, I got my L$ listing back and boom--my Inktomi rankings soared. Maybe related, maybe not. Just interesting :)

Last I checked L$ robot.txt allowed the directory to be spidered. Dunno if Ink does and factors that in the results, but in theory they could.

Last time I talked to Inktomi on the phone about why my L$ directory title/description was being used in the Inktomi index, I was told they were partners. So, maybe Inktomi favors L$ listings.

Ink definitely is using either the Looksmart or ODP listing for the name of my site. The actual HTML title is more a string of keywords aimed at the spiders.

In regards to the Inktomi Algo change, my results are not similar to google. I'm ranked #1 and #5 for keywords in Google. But since Ink's algo change, I have dropped off the face of the earth in Ink (MSN). Would anyone be willing to do me a favor and look at my two sites and see if they can notice anything? BTW, I have analyzed both sites with W3C's Link Checker and HTML Validator. Sticky me, if you can help!
