O.K., I have several sites registered with Ink. Now It seems no matter what I try, I just can't seem to get ranked. I've tried weighting keywords, Header Tags (1 ,2 and 3), Links, etc.. It seems that the sites ranked for my keyword are all much less relevent than mine. How do bust into the game?

What's the friggen secret!

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Do your keywords bring up overture, ink connect, and lot of looksmart pages. The keywords I perform well on ink have no overture, ink connect, or looksmart pages. To get the most traffic on Ink I have found to target less competitive keywords. Make sure your titles and keyword weight target those lesser keywords.

and to add what k2 had to say, then make sure your sites are sticky..If they're good, people will bookmark them.

Stickiness really has worked for me in the past.

Thank you for the advice. I'll try to target less competitive keywords and also to make my sites "sticky".

How about the use and weight of H1 tags? META Keywords? How many times should your keyword be used on the page?

?????

For MSN's INK listings anyway, put superlatives in there as secondary keywords. (Best, Lowest Price, etc.) If you have competitive terms, remember that Looksmart doesn't let people put superlatives in their description, so anyone typing in "Best Widgets" are going to bypass the entire L$ directory. Commercial words can work, too, like "Buy", "Shop," etc. This is because, while paid L$ listings will have those words, the free ones cannot have anything in their description talking about commercial activities - period.

Now, of course, most people are still going to type in "Widgets" but for those that type "buy widgets" or something more descriptive than just the main keyword(s) alone, you'll start to see hits from those folks.

Grumpus,

Do links have any effect on INK rankings?

I haven't been able to figure out at all how INK ratings are ranked within themselves. Of late, it seems to be very similar to google, though even that is a guess as I only have a few pages (22 last count) in INK to work with as compared to about 12K in Google. I'm sure they have some sort of link popularity thingamajig in their algo, but I can't tell.

One thing I know for certain - if you've got a keyword in your metatags, it should be in the text of the page. AND, it should probably be in an <H1> (or another header) tag.

Grumpus,

I'll make the changes you are suggesting. I'll let you know how it works out.

Thanks
