How does one go about getting high rankings in Altavista? I currently have very good rankings in Google - which aspects do I need to address in order to rank in Altavista?

Any guidence would be appreciated ... thanks.

Welcome to WebmasterWorld advocate!

AltaVista is not a goldmine of traffic, and it has been seen that even with high rankings, the traffic still doesn't flow as it does from other engines and directories.

Most SEOs and members are probably not going to be willing to give you their exact formula for success, but the AltaVista algorithm is not incredibly different from Google.

I like to remember these things when creating a website or optimizing it when I have complete and total creative and editing control:

- Clean, simple, and small code
- Keyword rich text (the proper keyword density can be debated all day
- Heading tags
- Meta tags
- Title tags
- Links
- The SEO basics

Thanks for the response ... Id just assume forget about altavista too, but certain individuals are always saying - I cant find you in AV ... LOL

So which engines/directories(5) would you say are the most important as far as increasing traffic? I get most of my traffic from google at this time … which 4 others should I cater to?
