I registered a number of URLs with Inktomi through Position Tech for a client's site developed in Vignette. Despite the pages having complex Vignette URLs the pages are being sucessfully spidered by Inktomi and appearing in MSN results. URL formats are as follows: [clientname.com...]
The problem is that the click throughs are not being registered by PositionTech. A check of results in MSN or Pure Inktomi shows the URLs have the commas replaced with % symbols. eg the URL listed above is shown as [clientname.com...]
Position Tech support have advised me that "Commas are not seen as valid characters within the search engines, so when there is an invalid character it is replaced by %. This mismatch of the URL could be causing an issue with the click thru reports." They said they'll investigate whether click reports are being effected by this but I'm still waiting for a reply.
In fact each comma in the URLs is being replaced with "%2C". I'm wondering if editting the submitted URLs so they feature %2C instead of commas (as in the Inktomi results) would this fix this problem. Has anyone else had this issue?
