Inktomi, who has developed integrated direct feeds using XML over the last two years, has introduced a Search Toolkit [inktomi.com]. The toolkit is based on standard XML and HTTP.

The Search Toolkit is available as a multi-threaded server product. For easy integration with the parent application, a Java API is provided for the product, as well as an open, socket-based interface using an XML-based and HTTP-based protocol.

Unfortunatly, no further info is available on its availability, nor do they mention how much it costs or any details worth knowing.

From the site, it appears to be an 'api' that is chained to a server based product you purchase from Inktomi (eg: this is NOT a Google like open API).

As far as I can determine, this is NOT a public API into Inktomi. This is server side software you License for mega bucks.

On the upside, cudo's to the the Ink pr department for the online site. I've read alot of adcopy, but that takes the cake. It's the best mix of adcopy with techno baffleing double talk I've ever seen.

Seriously, if you ever write adcopy, go read that site. You have no idea what the product is, what the product does, how it operates, what you are going to get, what type of advertising is in it, how much you are paying per search, how much the software costs, or what is required for installation. There is no way that little old tech reporters on the net are going to be able to sift through it. It's brillant. It should be in an advertising hall of fame.

Brett...

that's bizzare. this isn't the article that I linked to. Did you change it, or did it change at the source. The article I was linking to talked more about the INK intranet search. I will try to find it again.

4crests - nope, just spliced it onto the end of this one. It appears that many of the Ink affiliates/partners are producing branded versions of the software.

thanks Brett. I think I might have copied and pasted the wrong article. Now I can't find the one I wanted. It had some interesting stuff in it about Inktomi trying to keep up with Google. It was pretty funny.
