I know we had a similar discussion last week about AV referrals improving, and yes, I had seen a major improvement. Howver, all of a sudden it has jumped from 7th best referrer to 3rd!! Seriously, on all sites! What the heck is going on???

Not that I'm complaining or anything...

I have been predicting this for 13 months and I said it would take them 15. I have spoken to the guys at AV and they have sorted out the major problems they were having and are in the process of rolling out new technology. I still think they have alot planned for us.

Come on AV.

AV is 11th this month (down from 8th last month). I'm still waiting for the big move. I haven't paid them anything (except for Overture), but am still represented in the first 10 for certain keywords.

This is major! If AV can get themselves back on track on start to follow the Google example, maybe Brett will give them back their own forum! :)

Seriously though, big things are afoot. I can see them becoming a major player again. They have to keep away from investment companies etc and concentrate on their technology and customers.

Yes, Altavista is raising.
The main reason (for us) is that we are gaining top positions.

I think it depends on the fact that Altavista now filters a lot of spam.

I can confirm that they are using new spam filtering technology which is doing a better job.

I agree Altavista's serps are getting cleaner and more relevant. But they need a huge marketing effort to grab the market share they lost during the last years.

We have paid AV for inclusion on a test site. Positions where very good, but the traffic it brought was poor.

I sincerely hope they get better soon.

The amazing thing is they still had alot of traffic throughout the problems. I don't think it will take to long for traffic to build. I think they will steal traffic from all engine that aren't named Google quite quickly.

yeah they are getting better. but i sure wish they would stop re-directing Malaysian users to AV UK. I think the Malaysians got rid of the Brits around 30 years ago but AV still hasnt heard obviously...

Since I've been in this industry for over six years, AV has always held a place close to my heart! Awwww.

The first thing they need to do is get rid of those damn skyscraper ads. As soon as you click through to page two of the SERP's the popups start coming, usually two at a time! That will chase visitors away real quick! I don't even go past page one anymore for fear of being stuck in popup hell!

I was a great Av fan for a long time but lost faith when they started with those irritating pop ups. Have they abandoned them now, is it safe to go back?

It looks perfectly safe to go back now as far as I can judge. ;)

Just been there to take another look. I like what I see... better serps, faster updates... MUCH better.

I'd luv to see a comeback.

I'd love to see a comeback too, but I just got multiple pop ups, and one of the big skyscrapers was actually blinking....ugh...

Submitted my latest hobby site not long ago to AV and lo! I look today and the homepage (*not* a paid submission either) is appearing!! amazing, hope the subpages get picked up too. Roll on a viable alternative to google, which rocks don't get me wrong, but I do worry about having so many eggs in just the one basket..

AV is still having technical problems though. It seems to error out a great deal. It takes about 5 times to get a page.

Irritating, however, your still my friend AV ;).
