Say I got "paid for inclusion" Inktomi and now having so much other websites linking to ours would it prevail the same outcome similar to Google. I know good ranking in Google means having relevant amount of good links to a site in addition to good description / keywords, etc.
If it does, then do we need re-publshing it just like Alta?

if you pay for inclusion with inktomi, i do not believe incoming links make any difference.

i have orphan pages (no links) that rank very well using Pay for inclusion.

Intkomi's PFI pages WILL do better over time with links pointing to them.

EXAMPLE>>> I developed a 5 page site the home page keyed on a fairly competive 2 key word phrase about 6-7 months ago. When i submitted it to intkomi PFI it was ranked about 60-70... I got it in DMOZ and got about 15 very good links from other sites, same theme.ect......it now ranks in the top 8.

I did NOT change one piece of code on the entire site during this time period.

BTW....same thing happend with altavista PFI.

Thanks guys,
You may be right "webguybri", just as we noticed one site who excells in its ranking as number one and further learning that the same site not even from DMOZ but(PFI)INK. This site along had steady ranking for a good two months now being well behind prior oh maybe some few months back like somewhere 150 to 250. So, I guess that's a good point since we ourselves started to acquire much of the needed links to our site a few days ago,we'll see how it develops and progress after a few weeks from now.

Maybe, but ive noticed clicks from Intomi PFI URL's, as monitored by Position Tech's monitoring tools shows that the longer in the database, the more hits. Im not convinced that this is due to more incoming links, but may be something else to do with longetivity - for e.g. some ink partners take longer to reindex new URL's from the inktomi database.

In our case, our URL's gradually increased their exposure over 12 or more months, though they didnt have any extra incoming url's of any significance. When you let a URL payment lapse, and start again with it, you lose a lot of clicks and you have to start the build up all over again.

Anyway that's our experience.

Inktomi sorta hints that linkpop counts in its Content Policy FAQ [inktomi.com] (which is largely about optimization issues).

In response to the question "How do I make an 'un-indexable' site indexable?", the answer includes "Ask Webmasters of related, high-quality sites, to link to your site."

It's the "high-quality" bit that grabs my attention. If you want Inktomi to think you're quality, you need other quality sites to link/vote for you. Hmmm.

By the way, anybody who thinks Google's uptight about spam should read Inktomi's Content Policy. It's a laundry list of every SEO trick known to man.

>linkpop counts

I made the mistake of taking some advice here and changing the page that INK (position tech) points to. Big mistake, so I changed back to the original page, but of course I lost my click count and really took a huge loss in my ranking. It's slowly just now starting to regain some ranking again.
