Inktomi Partners with Submission Software Company?

I just got an email from a company that makes one of the more popular desktop submission tools that mentioned that they are an Ink inclusion partner.

They are also offering an affiliate and a reseller program. This seems to be a very big departure from the current Ink paid-inclusion model.

Has anyone heard or read anything official from Ink on this? I haven't seen any press releases, and the software company isn't listed on their partner page.

more popular desktop submission tools that mentioned that they are an Ink inclusion partner.

Meaning you can submit directly to the Inktomi db from the desktop?

I'm not sure. They have a web interface for submissions, but It's not clear whether or not the software integrates with it. I'm looking into it now.

Yes, it does allow you to submit to Ink and AV paid programs from your desktop.

Got an error, when I clicked on your link, Brett. Perhaps they decided they didn't want that showing on their page after all? Now I really want to know what I missed ;)

Why the secrecy ? Can I just mention who we are talking about ?

Damian,

I think that is why WebGuerilla was looking for a press release ... so we could actually get some details from 'the official source'.

Grnidone, sorry, is that a yes or a no ?

Anyway, the software company mentions/offers it on their website. Don't know about any press release from them or Ink. I am affiliated so I won't mention it unless you ask.

I can ask them to answer some questions from members here if you like.

Hi Damian,

At this point, I'd prefer not to mention the company by name. When I made the original post, I thought that a formal press release had been issued and that I had just missed it. Keeping in line with the way we normally handle the breaking news forum, posting a link to the release would have probablly been appropriate.

However, since their doesn't seem to have been any kind of official release, and the program is tied into a fairly expensive piece of software, IMHO, posting a direct link to the company selling the software moves this thread from a news story, to more of a promotional post, and that was not my intent.

I'm quite sure there will soon be a marketing campaign launched that will enable those interested to learn all the specifics of the program.

Meanwhile, I think any further discussion in this thread should focus on the bigger picture, which is the potential long-term effects of Ink moving to this type of business model. When you look at other areas of the web like hosting and domain registration that have walked down similar paths, it seems to me that Ink's decision could dramatically change the SEO landscape.

I can't help but think that a year from now the web wil be littered with fly-by-night sites promoting paid inclusion as the greatest thing since sliced bread, much like the FFA programs of a few years ago.

Just wondering if anyone had thoughts on this? I don't quit understand the possible implications.
