Altavista includes href and other tags as text in SERPS

Have they always been doing this?

Since I'm now getting a lot more traffic from AV - 50% of what I am getting from Google, I was checking out the SERPs. I noticed that the listing for one of my pages was something like:

Foo Bar Candy Bars
Foo Bar candy bars are the best on the whole darn sphere. b a href candy_bars buy one b href

Where /candy_bars.html is a page that is linked to from this page and the link is bolded. Have they always been doing this?

A bit late to the party physics. The big noses in here seem to be busy ;)
So I'll give it a go:

Could it be bad code?
Try validating it [searchengineworld.com]

If the tags have errors, the engines can get confused and show some of the html code.
