Hi to everyone! This is my first post here.

I have read that If you get into the BOW database, you can get your other sites into BOW by linking to them. Right?

What if I pay to get included initially and then get into BOW by sometime? Will then my other pages, which are linked, will be spidered?

I am confused! Help will be appreciated.

Hi Farhan and welcome to WebmasterWorld,

Your mileage may vary but this is how I tame the Inktomi beast.

First decide if you want to pay for inclusion or not. It depends largely on the type of site you wish to promote, some sites are suited to PFI some are not. To give you an example I have had two new sites go live in the last week or so, one site is targetted at essentially one two word keyphrase and we went PFI with 6 pages. The other site is over 1000 pages, each keyword rich and tagetting a huge number of possible search terms, we will not be going PFI with this site.

Once you have decided whether to pay or not then the process from there on in is the same. In common with all the major SE's the algo is fundementally weak, they rely an awful lot on other sites "pointing out" quality content. The task as an SEO is to get linked to from as many of the "trusted" sites as possible. Prime targets [amongst many] are DMOZ and Yahoo [make sure they catch your listing in the what's new section]. Links from other sites in the BOW database also help, they have already been through the quality check and are assumed to be pointers to quality. As to links from paid pages helping I think their influence is very small.

In essence; decide which dB you want to be in, get the site linked to from as many quality sites as possible, wait. The waiting bit applies equally to free and paid for listings, you will find it very hard to rank on competitive terms until the site finds it's place in the web map.

All of course imho.

The old BOW page seems to have been replaced:

NFFC, how can you distinguish BOW sites from sites from the other db's? Maybe a bit of a newbie question, but this has never been quite clear to me.

I don't try to, if it's not paid for and is ranking that is good enough for me, it's about traffic not which dB.

keyplyr/Farhan

If you’re looking for BOW sites within ink try searching using MSN once you find the "web Pages" results on mouse over look at the url displayed on the bottom of your browse, if it shows a redirect-west.inktomi.com followed by the url it's a paid listing.

You used to be able to check this using the pure results from ink but it looks like they have blocked that

The bestoftheweb.com is nothing to do with ink

tigger,
from what you've written may I conclude that:

If a domain shows a redirect its a paid and what if it doesn't? Is it a BOW page?

What your saying is correct, on mouse over the URL will be displayed with redirect-west.inktomi, sites that are in the BOW will just show the URL.

I sent to you an example within the sticky mail which show's a paid listing at the top and 3 others in the BOW.

Sticky mail is the internal used WmW look at the top of your screen it will say in red "1 message" or just "1" I can't remember click on that will you be then taken to the sticky mail section of WmW
