Increase in traffic or is it just me?

I am seeing a definite increase in Alta Vista traffic this month. For the past two years it was basically nothing and now I am getting a respectable amount of traffic.

Is it just me or has anyone else noticed this too?

Here in Sweden we got alot traffic from AV when we have a good position.

We've also noticed an increase which could be worth watching again. Haven't done a close enough check to see whether it's from a specific regional source or whether ther're any other patterns worth noting.

I have been a strong believer in it's revival for a while now. I have been talking to someone I know at AV about this for a while now and they do have big things plans (I'm afraid I can't say much more), however, they are coming back with AV-engence. That might not take on the current big boys straight away but they do want their traffic back and I think they'll get it.

They could start by getting rid of the PPC listings at the top of their returns. Whether they are credible or not, they won't LOOK credible whilst those are still there.

My AV traffic is up too this month.

AV referrals on the rise here as well. Nothing like it was a year and a half ago, but they are now showing 7th place.

must add that their SERPs aren't that relevant. and their layout aren't ergonomic - hope they come out with more ergonomic aVengence. :) otherwise they have very much dissapeared from my radar screen.

Have high ranking positions but traffic from AV is still rubbish. No change.

I hope they do make a comeback, but they really do have to get rid of some of the adverts, and make it more user friendly and oh yeah, sort their Algo out so they return relevant results.

But as with any internet business (apart from yahoo) I wish them the best of luck.

I just talked to an altavista ad rep that i have a good relationship with he asked for me what their % traffic increse was.....they are up 10% this quarter. He also said that they were only updating their index every 3 months. Now they are trying going to try to get it done on a monthly basis. :)

AV will only appear back on the radar if it matches the industry leaders for freshness, relevance and traffic volumes. Until then, I will give it as much thought as I do other underperforming engines. None.

10% here, slight boost there - so what? AV needs BIG changes before the internet community will take it seriously again.

I've definately seen a lot more traffic in my logs from AV (gone from 0 a day to 2 a day but it's now consistent in the last week or so).

Always had good rankings but nice to see them translate into actual visits at last.

I have not noticed the the increase in traffic in the logs I see, but the search listings in the UK are looking better than they have been recent times.

Maybe iam late for the party but have anyone seen that AV are using odp´s description in the search result of AV.

Scooter has been crawling my site for a couple days now, requesting dozens and dozens of pages; hadn't seen it in 6 months, now it's everywhere.

I always had fair ranking on AV, just no traffic. Lately I've noticed ranking improved (slightly) for a few pages. This is adding up to 20 or 30 referrals per day. Sure wish they would clean off the BS from their page and just deliver search results like they once did.

Submitted a site 2 weeks ago using the free submit, today all the pages are listed most in the top 5 for all the keywords.

Much of that will depend not only on rankings, but AV useage. Time will tell.

My inbound links from AV have increased by slightly over 40% - AV was lagging far behind other sources in this category for me, so I am quite happy to see the update.

Now if they could just keep it fresh...

i have to give a credit to AV! few months ago my traffic fro mthere was 0, now it is back. I see litle increase in traffic last month.

Most increase i see from aol search and msn

This is kinda strange. The moment i got pr 0 in gogole all traffic from msn,aol,AV etc increased, few of them i was not even IN before. I welcome new players back (in my case), it was about time. I already draw cross on AV but now i have ALL my pages in their index :)

Some sites are beginning to show increased AV traffic.

It is almost like Liane says two years of almost nothing and now a steady trickle of referrals.

I wasn't paying much attention to this at first... but low and behold, I see an increase too. From one or two a day up to 7-8 per day this week. Quite a jump percentage wise but still far from a couple thousand a day received from Google.

I scoffed when I saw this post thinking av would never give me more than the one a fortnight but actually the last few days it has brought 10-15 a day. Prehaps in the 2003 update i'll get more pages in!

There seems to be some positive rumours out about av.

If they were to make a comeback in terms of traffic, we may find our own referrals multiplying as well. We are getting around 50-60 a day now, from around less than 10 6 months back. Now if the number of av users increased by 5 or even 3, thats a respectable number.
