Time to optimize for ink

Will it affect my Google rankings

I have a new site and I started by optimizing for Google. It is ranking pretty well in Google so far so I decided to submit to Inktomi to see how we ranked there. It is ranking OK but I need to get a few positions higher. Like top three instead of 9 or so. How can I optimize for Ink without compromising my Google rankings.

Thanks for the help,
Russell

Russell, there are a few really good threads here in this forum with some basic information - read through those. Ink is more interested in on the page, with Google it's a bigger picture that's looked at. If you're top 10 don't mess around too much, someties it can be counter-productive.

For Inktomi, tweak your description meta tag a wee bit so it doesn't interfere with Google, not too much. Make it focused on your main keyword or two with a reasonable density and keep it attractively readable. If it's a paid page you'll know soon enough, just save prior copies of pages with the dates so you can keep track.

I know Ink isn't very popular, but I happen to like them a lot, especially for certain sites. And the combo of Inktomi (for MSN and AOL in my case) and Google can work very well for you. Do a little to test, nothing major.

I build a set of doorway pages for Inktomi that are not outwardly linked in anyway from the main site and then I do the pay for inclusion route. I do not risk courting Inktomi at the chance I might lose favor with google.
My method, not black or white, more grey than anything.
