Is there a chance to get in Ink for free?

Is there a chance nowdays to get site listed in Inktomi for free?
What are possible solutions to try?

Almost ditto... True of all new domains.

Old domains already in the index that I've updated have gotten respidered surprisingly fast, whether or not they have ODP listings.

Yep. Looking closely I see that all the domains ( the one I had in mind is actually a subdomain - the main domain is in DMoz) are in DMOZ. I now have almost as many free pages as paid ones.

I have one new domain that is listed in Ink, but does not have a DMOZ listing. However, one of the pages was paid inclusion.

Thinking out loud here - AOL has dropped DMOZ in favor or pure INK - is it possible that's becasue INK is filling in the blank spaces with dmoz thereby creating dup listing if they kept DMOZ.

And if that's the case is it also safe to say these pages are not being picked up by INK's spidering but rather being purchased or borrowed by INK which would account for the DMOZ description.

Guess I'll be digging to see if I've missed something. We only pay attention to "refers" so if INK has picked up some of our pages we would only know in when it starts to generate refers.

We stopped caring what's indexed in favor of what's producing a long time ago...

Just an aside - While looking into the above stuff, I found INK has a site of our's well indexed. The only thing is, we removed the site 5 months ago and all of the pages are 404.

What does that little spider do when it comes around clogging up our log files?

Oh, and guess what - that site is still nicely indexed in DMOZ. Bet there's going to be some interesting talk about DMOZ around the Inktomi water cooler today...

I have quite a few pages that are being regularly spidered and included in the database without paying.

Most are not in Dmoz.

What I have seen is: time factor.

Most of the domains are at least 6 months old.

I think that, like NFFC said, if you have the time, waiting might get you in.

I guess only INK knows for sure. But why would they be adding free sites that are 6 plus months old and not removing sites that have been 404 for that long.

If it's just a time thing who would ever dream of paying for a page. And if you pay for one page - will the rest of the site be ignored?

My understanding is INK has a cap on the amount of docs in the db they serve up - so who gets bumped out for the paid and/or "free found" pages.

Brand new domain registered in Sept, listed at DMOZ mid-November, first free Ink referal Jan 14th.

I just had a visit from slurp today, it grabbed my robots.txt and index page. I have not submitted to any inktomi engines or paid for anything. This is a new site started dec 10.
