Does anyone know how to increase inktomi link popularity ? Would a multiple domain strategy work ? Does inktomi know what link quality is :-) ? Does the inktomi link popularity also influence the msn directory site rankings ?

The only link Inktomi wants is to your Visa Card - Welcome Post 123 to WMW and the INK forum

post123, if Ink is just looking at the page you've paid to be included and not going further, it's not likely anything but on-page criteria will make much difference. That's not to say they're not factoring in words that are in link text, even though they won't follow the links. No way to tell whether it means anything other than just being part of the density or is given some extra relevance. I certainly don't know, but I use keywords in link text anyway.

The Ink pages have got nothing to do with the order of the directory listings, which some say they have down but I've seen too many discrepancies. I have heard it told that it's best to optimize a page before LookSmart submission, but that's not a bad idea anyway.

The best strategy for Ink for MSN imho is since it's a waste for search terms that have anything more than just a few directory entries in the category is to go for second and third level keywords that have only a few directory listings - say, 12 or under, and aren't highly competitive. Those are more targeted anyway. Take the word band - it could mean a rubber band, a wedding band or a dance band.

I just put in a page last week that I deliberately didn't use a description for. Basically, what was used was the title and the beginning of the page text - quite a bit of it. It's a "coming soon" page so it's not linking to anything or from anything (it will be) and it's buried under directory listings where there are a lot of them, but doing just fine where there are only a few directory listings. No links, it's got nothing to do with it.

Thanks for the help.

Yes, some sites do very very well in msn with blatant keyword repetition in the html code. Btw: Directhit click-pop works.

for ink results in MSN, or for MSN directory results?
