INK's pay to play revealed

You'll get no whining from me, mayor, we are doing this one site on a strictly test basis to see the outcome. The risk is very little compared to the potential benefit of both the site and understanding this system for us.

Good point, ihelpyou. Hopefully that won't be abused by Inktomi or Positiontech, they both have a lot to lose and gain on this and they would be wise to play their cards very, very straight. I really think that this system needs to be put to the fire before anyone should part with hard earned cash. Let idiots like me do that and come back to tell you how it goes ;)

and Yes, I am happy you are testing it for the rest of us. Someone had a post earlier about the fact that they may move up sites who pay at the beginning so as to get good testimonials from the get go.

I can agree with this also, but it would be hard to believe that Ink would risk something like that....but ya never know...

Ross, we're thinking alike on that one. I also thought there might be hope that if the pages that you submitted were doorway pages, and with the 48 hour thing, there might be some opportunity for some fine tuning and it could be a really turn out to be a positive thing. I sent them an email asking if doorways were permissible. I'd imagine they're swamped with hate mail about now, but when and if they ever respond, I'll let you know. I'm guessing they'll say no, though.

I assume from reading what I have so far that they are accepting adult listings? They'd be crazy if they didn't! They'll either make a fortune on that or go crazy... maybe both!

The next time INK stock rallys, I think this is probably one of the best short sales around. These guys are NOT going to make it if this is the best they can offer.

They seem to be coming up with something new and more devious every day.

Well, Gil, I disagree with you about shorting INKT over this program. One reason INKT hasn't tanked to the same degree as many of the Internet stocks is because they didn't let the search engine business take them down. They began throwing in the towel rather than loose money trying to compete against the likes of Google. IMHO, Ink will leave the search engine business altogether, which is my prediction, before they will take a bath. If the pay-to-play business doesn't make good money for them, they'll walk ... and the disclaimers they have in place leaves the exit door wide open.

For the record, I don't own INKT and I don't have any plans to buy any. I've been getting fried as a long on CMGI (Alta Vista's parent) and that's enough pain for now.

If the Position Tech plan works as promised on the sales page (but disclaimed in the fine print), this may not be a bad deal for the small enterprise with only a few pages.

I gave it a try on a few pages and will be interested to see what happens. Ten Bucks per page is not very expensive if in fact they do keep you in the data base and spider the site every 48 hours.

I envision this working in the early stages but if the program grows and they are spidering millions of pages every 48 hrs we will probably be right back where we started......Inkdoggled. Or should I say thanks for Fast and Google.

Talked to a rep at Position Tech this AM and they seem to be
nice folks trying to do a job. They got right on the issues I had and provided a quick response.

Time will tell on this one.

Site that was submitted 19 hours ago is already showing up in all Ink partners...Goto.com, AOL, Iwon.com, MSN, didn't check the little guys. That is fast turn around and already getting refferrers. Will let you know the exact time frame shortly.

mnw, top 10 for major keyword on pure Inktomi results but interestingly enough, not the home page. However, there is not a lot of viable competition so that needs to be taken into account. I had them spider 9 pages to try and get a theme and all the other factors weighed together. I am not sure how this would do having only the index page spidered.

You can go "through" Inktomi's site, but you are still registering on PTI's "secure" server. I guess I'm going to have to do one of my sites just to see what happens... I HATE paying to be "spidered" but times be tough. : (

As DrBill pointed out to us a bit ago, signing up just one page and then working it, is actually a great way to probe the algo. (think about it).

My opinion would be absolutely not!!! Why tamper with success. Also, there's a lot to be learned about this before anyone can recommend it.

As steve say's leave well alone, don't even think about resubmitting. Having said that track your rankings closely, look for any "pay" sites creeping above you and make the call from that info.
