Just got through watching Leno (hope it wasn't a rerun) and they had a segment where Howie Mandell goes to the Consumer Electronics Show. While their he gets an old man to say Yahoo multiple times and later he goes to the Yahoo area. The yahoo people tell him it's time for the media to leave. He makes a joke of it and says their there to film them making the media leave. The yahoo guys get kinda rude and ask him to leave again. Then Howie spots Tom Cruise and his girlfriend (whats her name). He tells the yahoo people that Tom is part of the media also and starts yelling across the room that Tom needs to leave. The yahoo guys grab the camera and they cut to a seen outside with Mandell talking to Cruise and his girlfriend.

My only thought was, if they treat Howie Mandell doing a segment for The Tonight Show like he is just some nobody, I can see now why they don't respond to emails from me.

Also considering that The Tonights Show main audience (18-35 year olds) is about the same target audience of yahoo, you think they wouldn't have shown themselves to be a bunch of asses. I wonder if Howie had wondered over to the google area if they would have treated him differently.

I saw that, too -- they really generated some bad impressions there. Of course, we don't know what was edited out.

You think too US-centric. I never heard of Howie Mandell before. For me, he is a nobody!

Well, the Yahoo folks certainly knew they had an NBC camera team in the room. When the cameras are rolling from any major network, you need to be very savvy.

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno is the most popular late night talk show in America.

The Tonight Show is filmed in Burbank, California.

Yahoo is based in Sunnyvale, California.

If you load Yahoo maps beta [maps.yahoo.com...] the city of Burbank is visible.

Its a 5 hour drive from Sunnyvale to Burbank.

CES is in Las Vegas, Nevada.

It is a 3 hour 40 minute drive from Las Vegas to Burbank.

You think too US-centric.

I never heard of Howie Mandell before.

There's really only been 3 famous people one ever needs to know about:

Pope John Paul II
Albert Einstein
and Howie Mandell

Must be cheap show and the guy arogant if they go for scandals like this :)

It's Yahoo!'s teritory, they say "no media" - means no media?

Sounds like being one of those media people that I personally would enjoy to show the door.

I never heard of Howie Mandell before. For me, he is a nobody!

Thats ok, once when me and some friends hopped into an old rust covered buick and decided to take a trip to Canada. As we were going through the border to Canada and they stopped us to do a search after they asked my friend if he had more than $10,000 on his person and my friend replied, "Does it look like I have ten thousand dollars?" This french guy takes us in the main office and is asking us if we have drugs or weapons on us. While he is in the middle of asking us questions my friend interrupts him and says, "why is your grandma wearing a tiara in that picture on the wall behind you, is she special needs?"

BTW, Howie was the voice of gizmo in the movie gremlins for which he won 4 Oscars.

Jay Leno isn't a cheap show. It is the top-rated late night talk show in US.

If I don't know that guy, do you think I was able to see Gremlins in... say... English?

>>I never heard of Howie Mandell before.

You're lucky. He's a dork that never seems to go away, mostly thanks to The Tonight Show. Bravo Yahoo.

How's that "US-centric?" I've never heard of him before either and I live in the U.S. (In fact I'm still trying to figure out what this story is about...)

US-centric, because supposedly he's only a "celebrity" in the US. So what is a "scandal" for the original poster is just a "so what?" for the rest of the world (including yourself).

This thread is only for North Americans to understand and appreciate. We don't care if others don't get it.

All you others are asked to please leave now. Go away. Go swap Benny Hill or Mr. Bean stories in your own thread. This is our thread.

(I'm just totally screwing around here. Don't get all "pear shaped" over it).

Howie Mandel... his schtick was sticking a surgical glove over his face and blowing it up with his nose. The guy is an annoying jerk. Annoying jerks are entertaining if they're funny. Howie is neither.

3 cheers for Yahoo

The Tonight Show,
On the air since September 27, 1954
Second longest-running entertainment program in U.S. television history
~6.3 million viewers every night

In fact I'm still trying to figure out what this story is about...

Lemme xplane, howie mandel and THE TONIGHT SHOW camera crew, one more time, THE TONIGHT SHOW camera crew were kicked out of the yahoo booth in what looked to be a pretty rude fashion. Approximately 6.3 MILLION people between the ages of 18-49 got to see that the people at yahoo seem to be a bunch of asses. Tom Cruise (star of the movie Taps) who was married to Nicole Kidman (star of the movie BMX Bandits) and is now with Katie Holmes (star of the movie The Singing Detective) was smart enough to realize that millions of people watch the tonight show and instead of staying with the yahoo group (it looked like Cruise was with yahoo for some reason), Cruise actually ditched yahoo and went outside to talk to Howie Mandell and the 6.3 million people watching The Tonight Show. I personally don't care for Howie Mandell either, but Yahoo kicking out The Tonight Show crew and their 6.3 million viewers doesn't seem like great advertising for them being this cool, hip, with it company.

I think a better title for this thread would be,
Please post here if you have never heard of Howie Mandell or The Tonight Show

What's up with the culture at Yahoo?

Didn't I see (on The Apprentice) a Yahoo employee refer to The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation as the "panhandlers"?

Benny Hill

Now that's a person/show I never understood - must be Brit thing... as I never found him/the show to be all that funny.

( or this 'Yank' just lacks the same sense of humor ). :)
