I suppose I should have said when whopping chunks of text are presented bold and at a 20px font size. While this can of course be achieved through various other methods (CSS, graphics), I believe it is most commonly the result of content that should be in a paragraph tag being placed in a <h>eader in an attenpt to entice SEs to give it more weight. This is just my perception, of course.

Nonetheless, it irks me.

I'll put up with a lot if I think the information I want can be found there. I draw the line at "unsavory" pictures (but then I normally turn pictures off altogether when visiting unfamiliar sites).

Sour grapes. At least one site has a phony 302 redirect to mine,
URL is something like scrapersite.com/link.php?id=123

A header check verified the 302. Clicking on that page immediately brought up mine.

I know there are lots of good reasons for php coding.
The downside is how easy it is to abuse.

This is no joke. I can't use Firefox at work, only MSIE.
Without the pop-up blocker, I get the cockroaches when I visit my hit counter site.
If it isn't roaches, its zombies, werewolves, crooks, you name it.

Yes, I made it up. I never click the crazy things regardless of what they say I'll get for free. Actually, like larryhatch, I almost never see them, only on "those rare, unfortunate occasions."

Don't tell me you've never seen those ads with the cockroaches crawling across them? Very realistic-looking and gross, the slimy little monsters. But, either the FlashBlock or Nuke Anything extensions eat them all very quickly! ;)

Nope. I was telling my boyfriend on Saturday after visiting a site that had it while I was eating that they immediately lost my business. Saw it again the next day on a different site and was gone from there too. I don't care what they say I'll win - that freaking banner is realistic looking and creeps me out. Can't we shoot kittens? ;-)

All my sites except one process html extensions through php. It's a very good practice, since that means you can change the programming language you use at any time running the site without changing your urls and breaking links etc. Plus I just like how it looks, users see what they expect to see. You can do that with anything, or deliver the pages with no extension. Look at the home page on WebmasterWorld and this page for example, .htm.

I actually (depending on my level of boredom) will click on those flash things and try to "shoot the hoop" or "blast the runaway rooster" then immediately click out or close the browser when the ad activates. Those games are fun... kinda, I just wished you could play them without the risk of opening a billion ads. =)

For me too it's those tower ads showing a cockroach climbing all around. You know, 'kill the cockroach and win a free iPod'. I just can't stand cockroaches.
