I am trying to help one of the non-profits I assist regularly, signup for a really good dsl deal that they qualify for.
However the dsl company will not take a check no matter what from anyone.

The group does not have a credit card, but someone came up with the idea to get one of these new "temporary" credit cards where you give cash/check and they give you a disposable card with that amount on it (minus fee).

I see alot of them on the internet but the trust issues look scary.
Anyone have any advice on these and a good place to get them?

Another suggestion was that amex might give them one but it looks messy and there is a security issue if the wrong person gets ahold of it. Time is also an issue as this deal will go away soon.

Thanks for any help!

I don't know about the other major cards, but Discover has an option to create a unique card for any one-time purpose that can draw on a savings or checking account.

That is interesting information, never heard of that.
Do you have to be a Discover cardholder already?

How is the number created, online? Over phone?

I'm sure you have to be a card holder - FAQ here:

I know this doesn't answer your question, but won't the DSL company have to perform recurring charges for the service? Even if you provide them a temporary credit card, isn't the DSL provider going to attempt to charge the card again for the next payment. Sometimes it's easy to overlook something this trivial. Perhaps this is just a "setup" type situation so my question is irrelevant.

Amex has the "travel card" which is a
preloaded card. Found the link on usps
who is an affiliate. It can be reloaded
periodically.

better yet, do you have a banker on the board
of directors?

or can you approach the pr department of
the provider for a donation? that's a really
godd price :)

how about paying a year in advance with
a certified cheque?
