Step 1: Drink water.

Step 2: Your body has been traumatized, it needs rest.

Step 3: If you can stomach it, eat something fatty & with lots of calories, like a slice of pizza, pesto pizza, with everything on it.

Step 4: Round about noon or 2 pm, have a bottle of beer- but no more. Then repeat steps 1-3 as needed.

Hangovers come from not knowing your limits. Now that you know it, stay within them. When in a social situation that calls for drinking, a good rule of thumb is to limit hard liquor intake to two servings, then switch to beer from there. Also, try not to drink more than 4 glasses of wine in one evening, try to stick to two.

A strong bloody mary with plenty of tabasco. Have this after a big glass of water.

A good way to avoid a hangover is to drink lots of water before you go to bed.

The best way to avoid a hangover is to not drink. ;)

I listened to a debate about this on the radio.

A doctor claims that the 'hair of the dog' will remove the pain!

I'll tell you what I do and this honestly works ... I promise.

Before I go out with the intentions of drinking a lot - I drink a couple of pints of water, more if I can with two painkillers, when I come home .. worse for wear I drink as much water as I can and take two more painkillers ... the same in the morning - no hangover :) It works

I do the same as peewhy. Your body needs water and drinking dries us out. The pain I am told is the blood vessels restricting to help with the lack of water. The real slogan here..."WATER...It does the body good" And sometimes beter. LOL

If you know you're gonna be out on the lash, drinks loads of water during the day BEFORE going out for the night.

People always talk about drinking water when you get in. That's too late. You need to be over-hydrated before you start on the beer!

If you go to drugstore.com and put "hangover" in the search, they have a bunch of the new products I've just noticed in our local grocery stores. Since I don't much like the taste of alcohol (unless it tastes like punch or chocolate milk), I can't vouch for their effectiveness.

Good luck!

Go for the preemptive strike against hangovers: proactive rather than reactive!

Before you go out, put a glass of water and 2 Alka Selzer beside your bed (ok ok, I'm assuing that you make it home to your bed!) and take them before you go to sleep/fall unconscious.

Wake up without fear....

My girlfriend has just informed me that Barocca is a very good cure for hangovers. It's like Alka Selzer, only red. It's all the rage in Oz apparently. ;)

Some pain killers, and a swim. Swim underwater as much as possible. Always helped me.

Whenever I am drink heavy (Wed, Fri, Sat) I always drink atleast one liter of milk before going to sleep. If I still have a hangover when I wakeup I'll just have a good cold beer to repair the damage. Smoking also helps.

But the very best way to avoid hangovers is to STAY DRUNK!

Take 2 asprin, 2 vit. C and a multivitamin with a couple pints of water before going to bed. Then mix up a pitcher of orange juice in the morning, and drink it all... even better if you can have eggs and bacon too.

Of course, if you already have the hangover, just drink lots and lots of water and juice, and take vitamins and some aspirin, or whatever painkiller you keep, and go sleep it off.

If you're too nauseated to keep anything down, just keep drinking water, and eating small pieces of toast or crackers until the nausea goes away... then start in with the juice and pills.

I've heard the "don't drink" suggestion works wonders as well... but I can't vouch for it myself. Sounds suspect. ;)

Hey digitalghost, I'm sure you mean pain killers that don't cause drowsiness. Otherwise that underwater swim could cure the hangover permanently. :)

Berocca, while it looks like Alkaseltzer, is a actually a fizzy vitamin pill. 1 gm vitamin C and good levels of B vitamins. It's the vitamin B that's supposed to help.

>>I'm sure you mean pain killers that don't cause drowsiness

:) Yep. Advil is enough. While you can get rid of the headache and the stomach unease, nothing seems to help as much as a good night's sleep, something I routinely have trouble getting.

Physical exertion seems to help, the problem is that you don't always feel like going out to split a couple of cords of wood after you've been out drinking...

Eat bread, pasta or potato before you go out, as this will absorb much of the alcohol, drink a glass of milk followed by water when you get in. Sorted.

cripes... coulda used this thread last Friday.

My offsider and I had a bit of a rough night out with a couple of clients to celebrate wrapping up a three year project.

Rolled into work only an hour late... but we were both a bit shakey, so ended up working in shifts.. she took first shift while I got a two hour nap... then she got the afternoon nap while I held the fort. Maybe an hour's billable work all day between us.

fortunately we have a very cool boss.. he just shook his head and bring us each a coffee. *l*

in answer though.. water before, during and after helps, and sleep really helps. Neither of us got enough of either.. hence the need for naps.
