The F.T.C. has brought the first ever cases under the Bots Act against three ticket brokers who, according to the Commission, used automated software to buy up thousands of tickets for sports events and concerts, and then made money selling on the tickets at higher prices.

The three ticket brokers will be subject to a judgment of more than $31 million in civil penalties for violating the Better Online Ticket Sales (BOTS) Act, under a proposed settlement reached with the FTC. Due to their inability to pay, the judgment will be partially suspended, requiring them to pay $3.7 million.

What time frame? Must be pre-covid violations since most sports and music/theater venues have been either closed down or seriously reduced audience levels since March of last year.
