If a man drinks a lot of alcohol, he will tend to produce more female offspring (Not sure why, but it could be that some kind of alcohol-related biochemical change affects sperm production so that there are more X-chromosome-carrying sperm created)...
If you feed a female animal vinegar during breeding season, she will tend to produce more female offspring (don't know how that would work, unless it alters the pH of the female's reproductive tract in such a way that male/Y-chromosome-carrying sperm have a harder time surviving)...
It is easier to have female offspring, because the woman's body tends to treat Y sperm and male fetuses as 'foreign bodies' to a greater extent than X sperm and female fetuses. I've heard many women with multiple children say that they had easier pregnancies with their daughters than with their sons...
So it could be that something in the parents' diet or lifestyle is predisposing them to produce one gender more easily than the other. Maybe if vinegar does increase the odds of female offspring, eating a more acidic diet would increase the odds of male offspring? I don't know... the 'vinegar trick' is something I've heard from livestock owners, where female offspring are generally worth more money than male, so nobody is really trying to increase incidence of male offspring...
