WinXP Profile Problem - Can't get my profile

Urgent assistance needed. Microsoft returns nothing

Hi Guys and Gals,

I need some urgent help. I can't log in my profile in Win xp after I rebooted yesterday. While loading Win Xp in the "Welcome" message, two window messages has been shown up:

First:

Windows cannot load the locally stored profile. Possible causes of this error include insufficient security rights or a corrupt local profile. If this problem persists, contact your network administrator.

Second:

Windows cannot find the local profile and is logging you on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off.

So now everytime I reboot, I lose everything on Desktop. All setting of IE and Netscape are back to default mode.

I don't have another computer to backup all my work on. I thought about creating another user, transferring the data and deleting the effect account. The problem is you can not delete the default account up xp with.

Note: This is a standalone machine and not a networked one.

Please help. I am desperate.

p.s. why does my pc brake everytime I split up with my girlfriend. This is the third time. Everytime it has happened on the same day. Could it be alive? Mmmuuuuuhhhhhhaaaaahhhhhhhhaaaaa.

Have you tried running scan disk (now called error-checking (I think) under tools in the drives properties tab)? It does sometimes fix this sort of thing.

The same thing happens with me and the girlfriends. I swear Right around the time the relationship goes down hill my computer looses a hard drive or some other problem.

I think my computer gets jealous of the time I spend with the lady friend. Either that or it goes into shoc with the extreme use that it gets once the relationship strts to go sour...

I thought with winxp if you had such a problem you could just reload Xp from scratch and it would save all your files..well not save them, just not overwrite them?

It never worked for me though.

My computer has been fairly healthy(knock on wood) since I have installed a firewall.

Ok. I'm back ... Well partly

I'm off to bed after I have finished writting this. FYI this is the quick route.

1. Create a new administration account
2. Log into the new account
3. Log out and enter the corrupt account again.
4. Copy the corrupt users details (all of C:\Documents and Settings\<username> to C:\Documents and Settings\<new user>
5. Now log into the new users account
6. Delete the corrupt user.

This should work as the error is in the registry so copying the files does not copy the corruption. There is some information that you will have to alter manually under the new account. These include:

Control Panel settings like power if your on a laptop
Desktop background, screensavers etc...
Outlook Express email (Outlook is easy - Express is a pain)

Hope this helps anyone who experiences this problem in the future.
