whilst searching for a recipe online last week for Roast Pigeon, i came across this rather amusing one, naturally i've just written the salient points ...

No one cooks pigeons the way Muslims do. etc etc

Both religions have many similar ( and some dissimilar )"food rules"..for a comparison [en.wikipedia.org ]

The idea of eating pigeon is pretty repulsive where I'm from. Right up there with eating rats. nomnomnom no thanks.

Yet I'll eat eggs for breakfast every day. Go figure.

Nothing wrong with wood pigeon. I agree with wheel about feral pigeons (rock doves).

of course both religions have similar food laws - for obvious reasons - everyone knows that...

but i don't get your point?

my point was, it is a 'muslim' dish and the recipe said you should put jewish salt in it.

I am just curious about what makes salt Kosher in the first place?

And a quick look at Wikipedia, its an American term for a type of salt which is in flakes rather than grains, nothing to do with actually being Kosher. Sounds like Maldon salt over here.

My point was I was surprised at your apparent surprise that a Muslim recipe would mention "Kosher"..even though as piatkow points out "kosher salt" is not "Jewish"..but a brand name.

I live in an area which produces many kinds of salt .."flake salt" which is what you describe is locally one of the varieties sold of "fleurs de sel" ..although wikipedia does not mention it under that heading ..I have it, and others, in the kitchen..
