Here's this week's Gizmo [images2.fotki.com]. What is it and what was it used for?

Macguru, didn't mean to leave you hanging [ericsfunnypictures.com], but it's been a frustrating [ericsfunnypictures.com] week at my shop, I got distracted [funnyalbum.com] and didn't see your post [webmasterworld.com].

ok, this item was used for early communication of coded messages.

It was filled to the top with water and at a given signal the water was released. When the signal was given to stop releasing water, the code reader would match up the message with the number showing on the stick.

I just guessed it sorta....I remember hearing about something like that on a Discovery special, same place I heard about the prostitute timer...
