Here's this week's Gizmo [images2.fotki.com]. What is it and what was it used for?

Macguru, didn't mean to leave you hanging [ericsfunnypictures.com], but it's been a frustrating [ericsfunnypictures.com] week at my shop, I got distracted [funnyalbum.com] and didn't see your post [webmasterworld.com].

It needs something inside to make it work, correct?
Is it a liquid?

Is, perchance, the bottom hollow? I mean, does it have actually a bottom? Or is placed over something else?

>>does this painting on this mug have something to do with the use?

Sorry JonB, almost misssed this one, but as far as I know the decoration is not related to the use.

How could the numbers be important if it isn't measuring something?

does it have an apothecary use?

Numbers can also be used to set something.

Your thermostat is used to set
Your thermometer is used to measure

I was thinking it was related to fertitilty, but I give up now.

It has a bottom, it's a container, not placed over something else.

Since you inquired about the bottom of this vessel, it has a small penetration directly related to it's use.

Maybe it's an early form of the 'terror alert status'? (3 meaning 'average'?) :)

This object is a timer.

It is filled with water or a liquid and when it drains out, time is up.

It was used by ancient prostitutes.

Does the stick pass through the bottom penetration or is only sitting in?

That was a chinese clepsydra, may be... but that measures, doesn't it?

Yep... a time keeping device measures the apssage of time, and IMO a thermostat measures temperature. The idea of temperature in and of itself is a measurement... which involves numbers, whether they're on a termostat or thermometer.

Is the stick constant on width? If not, this may be a regulated dropper: the number means the size of the drop.

Not sure how to answer this one, mivox. The numbers relate to something outside of this gizmo, but I guess the operation of this gizmo does use measurement in relation to the numbers on the stick? It's not a device used to measure something.
