Ya well.. don't use the title as a search string in Google and click on #1 - big surprise!

Talk about spam! ;)

.....and if you just have to try it 'cause fathom said not to..... don't do it with a mouth full of coffee.

Caffeine-based nasal irrigation is not pleasant.

Actually, let me correct myself... I am willing to bet that Oregon Herald carried some kind of story from Moreover that mentioned webmasterworld, then that guy wandered over here or had been here at some point and fired off an editorial to them thinking they were the original news source.

What's really interesting is I cannot find anyone by that name (who wrote the editorial) on the internet, though I've only begun checking the variations.

To round out the story for those that might have missed it:

Sometime this morning a post was made by a self-described reporter (1st post, new member) seeking to write an investigative article on a well-known company providing a web-related service. The post was a "call to action" (#26 TOS [webmasterworld.com]) with a request for members to contact the reporter. Sorry, no-can-do.

Just so someone doesn't report me to the ACLU, please make a note that I didn't nuke the thread.

LOL, you evil *** you....

Serious though, doesn't that letter look like someone typed it up and then went looking for a website name to insert in the appropriate places?

the people who run the site is just down-right nasty and mean

HUH? I've never met a nicer bunch of folks and the mods are super polite to me. And what's with the "is" singular? Like there was a name there first and then it was changed.

Heh! That would be NFFC or me. Everyone else, 'cept maybe agerhart when he's had more than two cups of coffee, frets over everything. BT's probably home crying over this right now. He'll be sick for 3 days. I'll get a stickymail from him that says Oh No! It's a public relations disaster.

There are newspapers, which actually publish original, objective news stories, and hire professional, literate copy editors (often supplied with important equipment like dictionaries at the paper's expense) to double check everything... including their editorial/opinion content...

...and then there are publications that don't pay their writers, don't bother with copy editing, probably don't know the legal difference between libel and slander, and couldn't tell the AP Style Guide from the latest edition of Where's Waldo.

I worked for a couple of the latter type in college. Fun times, but not something I'd call "journalism" in retrospect. It seems funny that we ever expected anyone might take us seriously, looking back on it.

Along the lines of any exposure is good exposure, there is a site I run for a book author. So I researched some people to review her book that had popular web sites and suggested she send the book off to them.

Well the first review that came in was fairly negative. But her website traffic shot up from refers from that site!
(and caused sales! :) )

Then more reviews came in and these were very positive. Site traffic just settled down and sales decreased.
Lol. I'll never claim to understand the human psyche.
