So someone dropped a url in the forum and it ticked off that they got edited? Poorly written, both grammatically and otherwise ("develop the skill and patients"), nothing but a childish rant. Was this really in an actual newspaper as an "editorial review," or was it a "letter to the editor?"

It'd hard to believe a real staffer/reviewer would put out something like this piece.

And by the way, welcome to WebmasterWorld, Metcalf. And further by the way, your post should be edited to remove the actual content of the article and to include just the link... and really shouldn't have been in the "Google News" forum. There are rules here, you know. Don't you read the paper? :)

[Edit: added final paragraph.]

Looks to me this gal's got something against SEO (probably too "capitalist" for her). Her criticism is way off base. And, she can't even spell... doctors have "patients", but people have "patience".

I love WebmasterWorld!

Sounds like a rant at best. WebmasterWorld may be known for strict controls (some say censorship), but it is that control that keeps the spammers away. Give up a little freedom, and benefit from a higher level of quality posts. It's a choice we're free to make.

Yep, hilarious. Particularly the part about needing "skill and patients to make it work" ... I think the patients have taken over the asylum at Oregon Herald

On a serious note, though - and not wishing to inflame sensibilities about censorship - but really should the whole article be reproduced here? Isn't that infringing their copyright? The link, and maybe some selected highlights, should be enough.

I find this completely <snip>, and not only that I think <snip> <snip> <snip>!

It couldn't possibly happen here at <snip>!

The Oregon Herald doesn't appear to be a "real" newspaper:

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

The Oregon Herald does not pay for submissions. If accepted, we can offer exposure and a byline. We will consider daily, biweekly, or weekly features or columns but all such submissions are considered gratis and must also be approved by the editorial staff.

Now I feel left out.:) All of my posts have been handled professionally and have been answered by my peers and moderators in a friendly tone. Just haven't been trying hard enough I guess.....lol.

Talk about burrs in a saddle, this one fell on a catus:)

Keep up the good work is all I can say to admin and moderators that make this forum a useful tool for us:)

Sad - I thought WebmasterWorld was about discussing webmastering not about people advocating "first amendment rights".

Guess that's why she's a reporter.

The Oregon Herald doesn't appear to be a "real" newspaper:

Ah, that does make more sense then. Some funny stuff on that contact page. For example, the very first item listed as the types of submissions they accept is "Consumer dissatisfaction reports." And, "If you send us spam, we may consider such spam an act of war and retaliate in an exponential manner." Yep, a professional outfit, this.

I do agree with her that around here things are a bit overmoderated. However, it is nothing like the fascistically controlled forums that she portrays this site as.

... And likely an amateur reporter, too.

Anyone who's been around awhile knows that there is no such thing as bad publicity.

I'd go on, but I don't want to offend the advertisers she said were responsible for the censorship here... You know "The Donate Corporation" and the "Subscribe Company" that have those flashy, distracting, high-dollar banners at the top right corner of every page.

I need to go find my rubber boots and my barn shovel...

I thought it was funny she submitted a press release [oregonherald.com] as a "story".

Can someone explain to me what jelly fish poop is? I grew up around jelly fish, and I don't recall ever stepping in any jelly fish poop or even seeing it when handling jelly fish.

Kimberly West did not author the WebmasterWorld story, a Lenny Morrison did. (See bottom of article)..

You can write the Oregon Herald about what you
think about the WebmasterWorld article at: news1@oregonherald.com

I urge everyone to send an email to them, proving
that WebmasterWorld is far more than what Mr. Lenny Morrison
describes!

Very objective reporting. It really isn't a news story like the subtitle of the thread. It is a rant. Really makes the "news source" look amateurish.

It is so poorly written it could not come from any credible news source as has been pointed out, and anyone knows if you are going to have a go at a place you feature all the 'targets' competitors!

redzone... I agree in principal (principle? whichever one it is)... but I'd rather not give these folks my email address.

Wouldn't want them to think we are spamming them :)

Think I'll settle for having a giggle, a yawn and moving on. :)

Probably little Lenny got stepped on his toe here in the forums and thought - Hey, there is that "newspaper" that accepts "Consumer dissatisfaction reports"-submissions I know. Why not just send ´em this piece of <snip>.

Seems there are too many people out there with too much time...

now now snappin turtles ... whomever Kimberly is or isn't (I'm a bettin she most likely isn't the same K W of back door bunnies or another KW, that one a singer. Anyways, it seems a popular name to google) the actual article, rant, grumble, whatever it is preferred to be called, did START out with the disclaimer it was not a news story but an editorial review.

As such, it did not claim to be objective, nor did it claim to be factual. it was what it was, an editorial review.
Oh, by the by, it dinna claim to be logical, intelligent, or even interesting.

But as that old saying goes .... a rant by any other name is still just another waste of bandwidth.

So, a tip of the hat to the lenny's of the world, and the kimberly's who post their views first and ask questions later. Let's face it ya'll, where else would we have gotten so great a laugh this eve.
