I Fixed One Of The Major Flaws In My Shelby Mustang Today

I replaced the Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar tires with Mickey Thompson ET Street Radials. No more having a VW beat me to the next light because my tires are spinning out of control and car is fishtailing into next Tuesday.

Goodyear should be ashamed to put their name on the OEM tires. At the very least they could leave off that F1 Supercar bolony and just call 'em Goodyear Grease (a perfect description of their traction ability).

Next I'll be working on my car's only other major flaw.

i like the grip of DR's but i don't like that they are fast in only 1 direction.

:)

As long as its the direction of travel I would be happy.

Hankook tyres give plenty of grip but the tradeoff is very fast wear.

Mack.

I'm not Bon Qui Qui [youtube.com]. This isn't complicated and you can have it your way. :)

It sounds like you need to slap some Toyo Proxes R888s on the 4 corners of your car. I've used 'em before on my BMW and highly recommend them. Unfortunately, like drag radials, they don't like the rain and they wear really fast. But if you only put 'em on for track use, that won't matter. Tomorrow morning (Saturday) I'll probably drive to a strip a couple hours away. When I get there, I'll take off the oems and put the drag radials on to race. When it's over, I'll put the oems back on.

Hankook tyres give plenty of grip but the tradeoff is very fast wear.

I don't know from personal experience, but I've heard the OEMs have a hard time making 20k miles. Are Hankooks worse than that?

After 4 sets of different tires I really have thought about R compound... im just really scared they'll ware out after 5000 miles haah

No traction in rain, cold weather, and flat spots after its been parked over a day I know the drill :-P

i'll give street tires ONE more chance but im going after something with a 100 to 150 treadware. (unless you can tell me you got 10k out of the toyos)

I thought about getting the new 2010 mustang GT or Camaro 2010 this year, then later 2011 maybe a shelby or the 5.0 Mustang, I just think its good to sell the 06 now, when you still can get a good price.

Just don't like now the new ones gained weight :-(

the problem with the Camaro it has such a ugly interior special the dash, but ok there will maybe also come some mods. When camaro it will be the SS

or you could wait for the z28, it will come with the supercharged LSA out of the CTS-V 550hp on tap with just 9 psi. It won't take much to turn that number into 600

But that has always kind of been the camaro, you over look all of its short comings because of its performance.

Drove two hours to test&tune today. Added two degrees of timing along with some 101 octane. Cloudy and no higher than 52 F. Track not well prepared. Air pressure in rear tires set at 16 psi. Had a little trouble with traction off the line. Car felt stronger but not any quicker or faster than last week. Maybe I should have lowered tire pressure to 14 psi.

Got big time compliments from a Viper I raced. I crossed the finish line first but had to red light to do it. :)

Back in 1977 I bought a 1966 GT350. I owned it about three days. Somebody made me an offer I wouldn't refuse. :)

That was my first and last foray into high performance vehicles (only exception was a 1967 Pontiac GTO convertible). Drive vans most of the time (musician when not webmastering).

About the shelby 05-09, you know the supercharger makes a high sound, is there a way to keep that sound lower, be cause the wining is higher then normal supercharger, also the new shelby should not have such a high supercharger sound.

J_RaD

5:43 pm on Feb 28, 2010 (gmt 0)

The sound is typical for that style of supercharger.

The sound of spooling turbochargers and whining superchargers is music to my ears.

lawman -hmm well I just think the 05-09 shelby is a little to loud, if you listen to the new shelby its not that load, so I though one could do something about it.

Shelby started his relationship with Ford for the 2007 MY, so I assume you mean 07-09.

Ford went to a CAI for 2010 models and added some sort of baffle in there somewhere to keep the supercharger whine down. Whine got more noticeable when I replaced the stock pulley with a smaller one.

If the whine really bothers you, you can replace the supercharger with turbos.

Had it dynoed tonight on a Dynojet. No tuning to speak of, although my friend adjusted the air fuel ratio between runs. Couldn't download the run file to my thumb drive so about all I have are the hp/torque results of the two runs.

First run: Max HP=517.5 and Max Torque=517.6

Second run: Max HP=523.6 and Max Torque=531.4

Mods = Off the shelf Jon Lund Tune and smaller pulley (from 2.8" down to 2.65")

Replaced midpipe today. Sure sounds faster. Next scheduled local Test&Tune not until March 27. We'll see if it's worth the money.

Oh, I also ordered one step colder plugs. I can't find my old feeler gauges. I'll get some more and will have the plugs in by T&T.
