People's names that match their job

Ever since I saw the Marx Brothers movie with the legal firm of "Dewey, Cheatham and Howe" I've been fascinated by real world people whose names match what they do. This week I ran into four:

1. Google's spokesperson for their new Speed initiative is Richard Rabbat.

2. A Science Channel documentary about the "biggest explosions in the universe" was narrated by John Shrapnel.

3. A Weather Channel documentary about hurricanes changing behavior over water and inland featured Dr. Chris Landsea.

4. And the one that always makes me chuckle is the infomercial for a pivoting board that turns you upside down to decompress the spine - invented by Roger Teeter.

I remember getting letters from Readers Digest telling me i'd won some fabulous prize. It was signed by Tom Champagne. That seemed rather appropriate to me.

And, of course, the racing driver called Scott Speed.

This is true only in the sense that Private Eye made it up. ;) Their firm of lawyers was Sue, Grabbit and Runne. LOL

I can see this is going to be a classic thread.

There's a chartered accountant in Brandon, Manitoba named Buck Warner.

I know two people that work in a prison.

One is Corporal Trustee.

The other is Seargent Keepers.

Long ago, in another life, I knew a psychiatrist who worked in a State mental institution - Dr. McNutt.

Odd world we live in...

And, of course, the racing driver called Scott Speed.

If my memory doesn't betray me (it often does), he was sacked mid-season from his formula 1 seat, apparently because he wasn't speedy enough.

Historically people got their names from the jobs that they did. Often times when immigrating they misspelled the foreign names so there are many versions of one name. Hence the reason that there are so many Smith's, Carpenter's, Baker's, Barber's, etc.

tiger woods is a golfer.
there is a television weather reader in los angeles named dallas raines.

kind of a twist, but my first pediatrician was a dr. geisel - we called him dr. suess after theodore geisel.
my second pediatrician was named dr. haydock.

on a tangent, there was a freshman dormitory at my school named after a mr. hall.
of course the dormitory was named hall hall.
the dorm across the quad often had a "hall hall sucks sucks!" chant going.

A relatively famous Dutch football (soccer for those in the US) player -he's currently a coach- is named Leo Beenhakker. "Been" in Dutch means "leg", "hakker" in Dutch means "chopper". And yes he was known for his less than gentleman playing style outside of the Netherlands doign his name all possible justice.

The fellow that pops in my mind was an elderly man who worked for a custom luggage company (as a musician I often needed custom cases made for new gear). His name was Justin Case.

I always wondered how my childhood dentist (and his brother who was also a dentist in the same practice), ever survived in the dentistry business named Mr Screech. When they hired an assistant called Mr Payne I decided they were probably doing it on purpose.
