Ever since I saw the Marx Brothers movie with the legal firm of "Dewey, Cheatham and Howe" I've been fascinated by real world people whose names match what they do. This week I ran into four:

1. Google's spokesperson for their new Speed initiative is Richard Rabbat.

2. A Science Channel documentary about the "biggest explosions in the universe" was narrated by John Shrapnel.

3. A Weather Channel documentary about hurricanes changing behavior over water and inland featured Dr. Chris Landsea.

4. And the one that always makes me chuckle is the infomercial for a pivoting board that turns you upside down to decompress the spine - invented by Roger Teeter.

I've always found the surname Hung funny. I can't keep a straight face when someone introduces themselves as Mr. Hung.

German classical singer Peter Schreier. His name may be translated as Screamer.

Danish folk singer Louise Støjberg. Her name means Noise-mountain.

an elderly man who worked for a custom luggage company. His name was Justin Case.

Wow! Nominatively Determined and a pun as well! Too cool!

I always assumed Dallas Raines was a stage name, especially in light of the fact that the same TV station also features another weather man named Johnny Mountain. However, I could not find any resource on line which supports my assumption.

My favorite is Astronaut Sally Ride.

Oh, I just remembered. Earlier this year there was a TV commercial on some cable channels for a motorized wheel chair. The spokesman on the commercial was the inventor of the chair and founder of the Hoveround company. His name is Tom Kruse. (Another doubly-fun name!)

(I'd pronounce kruse "croose", like "goose", but the man himself pronounced his name on the commercial like "cruise".)

I remember getting letters from Readers Digest telling me i'd won some fabulous prize. It was signed by Tom Champagne. That seemed rather appropriate to me.

I hate to break it to you but I suspect Tom Champagne was a fictional character too. I once had a job opening his letters for him.

The RAAF's chief medical officer in the 80s was a GPCAPT Graeme Killer.

The current 100m sprint champion is Usain Bolt.

As an auditor in a CA firm in the 1970s, I came across the will of a Mr Deadman.

I recall Justin Case as a PI in some TV crime series set in the 40s or 30s.

I had a customer once who's surname name was obscene enough I'm not going to even try getting it through WebmasterWorld's filters.

All I can say is that he was. A complete and total one!
