Whats the smartest decision You've made in life?

- moved away from the UK to work in Australia

I'm only 58 years of age. I haven't made any smart decision yet.

Moving from France to Kenya with my girlfriend when we were just turning 19 years old. That was 10 years ago, time is flying but it is still one of my best ever decision.

Well, it's a lot easier to recall all the stupid things I've done rather than the smart. It's a grossly uneven ratio.

I'd have to say what ytswy said: Learning a little bit about SEO. It's revolutionized every aspect of my life.

Change my working hours to stop/break/forget-about everything but my family at 15:00. I'm not 9 to 5, like in the US nor 10 to 8 like here, in Spain, but 7 to 3.

Besides the husband of 20 years & the children of course, I'd have to say the whole website thing.

It was one of those things that started as a midnight hobby on something I knew nothing about (because that was the only quite time in the house for just me to learn). By having some fun with the whole website/SEO game, turned itself into a lucrative business that helped retire the hubby.

Yeah...good decision...loads of fun! :)

I quit working for the man.

Years of corporate structure was what I needed to help while raising a daughter. That job completed, I quit to live a life of no structure, no timeclocks, no meetings, no neckties, and no pagers. Of course, adopting the life means no new car every other year, and today not even owning a vehicle. It means no permanent address. It means that the next dollar and the next meal must be carefully considered, there are few giveaways in this world. (Maybe I could put a little`more effort into my personal site and generate some extra cash.) The life also means freedom to be who I choose to be. The best, and probably smartest decision to date.

It's not for everyone, but I'm happy that it's for me.

Yeah, I second that. Retiring at 26 was my smartest decision ever. Some people wouldn't consider working when you want, where you want and only on things you enjoy working on (as much as you enjoy being down the pub with your mates) to be "retirement". But whether I work a 98 hour week or a seven hour week, I struggle to see it as anything else. Even when the pay is meagre, the lifestyle benefits make that an irrelevancy.
